Example 1:
- Title: Honoring the Land
- Medium: Hand-tanned deerskin, glass seed beads, shell accents (Tribal Affiliation: Cherokee Nation)
- Description: This piece is inspired by the natural landscapes of my homeland and the materials my ancestors have worked with for centuries. The design incorporates river shell accents, referencing the traditional shell gorgets worn by Cherokee people. The beadwork follows Southeastern patterns, honoring our culture's geometric designs. I selected natural tanned deerskin to reflect our long history of using what the land provides, ensuring that every element of this piece is connected to my heritage.
Example 2:
- Title: Spirit of the West
- Medium: Ostrich and calf leather (Partner: Diamond Cattle Co.)
- Description: This pair of boots represents the connection between heritage and modern craftsmanship. I incorporated ostrich and kangaroo leather for durability and texture, while the inlays reference traditional cattle brand designs passed down for generations. Working with Diamond Cattle Co., I wanted to capture the ruggedness of ranch life through hand-tooled details that echo the landscapes they work in every day.

Traditional Art Category
Traditional art encompasses a wide range of materials and techniques, making it difficult to break into specific subcategories. For this reason, all traditionally crafted works—including footwear, tack, jewelry, and other handcrafted pieces—fall under the "Traditional Art" category. To ensure clarity, we ask artists to provide detailed material descriptions in their submission form. This helps us accurately represent your work and craftsmanship in exhibition materials.
If you have questions about categorizing your work, feel free to reach out!
Deadline: All submissions must be entered by May 15, 2025.
Note: If we need a higher-resolution version for advertising or promotional purposes, we may reach out to request a larger file. Please ensure you have access to the highest quality file of your artwork.
